Sportsmen's Club - Established 1947 

 

Friday Night - Spotlighting Deer & Critters of the night. Saturday - Fishing on the South Branch of the Raritan River & Round Valley Reservoir. All caught fish; three Scouts earned their Fishing Merit Badges, one Scout, having earned this merit badge, qualified for his rank of Second Class & had his Scoutmaster Conference. Sunday - Break Camp, Award Prizes, & Scouts Leave For Their Tubing Trip on the Delaware River. A big thank you goes out to the members of Barbertown Sportsmen's Club who provided the club grounds for camping, all of the bait & some tackle, firewood, prize money (Largest Fish, Best Fishing Technique, Most Improved Fishing Technique, and best cooked bluegill recipe in the "Bluegill Cook-off", and ice cream for the boys. A special thank you to BSC Members Dean Lowenstein and Charlie "Nutsy" Heitzmann for helping with spotlighting deer and critter of the night on Friday night; to Charlie "Nutsy" Heitzmann, Jimmy "The Gimp" Beissel, and Frankie Barna for making the fishing experience on Saturday an enjoyable for all of the boys, Scout Leaders, and parents alike. This event is dedicated in loving memory of my Dad, John J. Tumpey Jr. - September 25, 1938 - August 4, 2010 - Scoutmaster of Troop 70 Oakhurst, NJ for 20+ years - Silver Beaver, Wood Badge, Order of the Arrow-Vigil recipient, and Boy Scouts of America National Headquarters corporate representative from AlliedSignal Corporation (formerly Bendix Corp. - now Honeywell Int'l.) - Loving Father of three sons who earned the rank of Eagle Scout, who were all members of the Order of the Arrow, who all earned the God & Country - Methodist Award, who all are Life Members of the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA), & who are all still involved in Scouting in official and unofficial capacities....
